Testosterone: A Necessary Part of Hormonal Balance

Testosterone often gets portrayed in exaggerated ways in the mainstream media—both positive and negative. The testosterone-charged guy is often played by a stereotypical character, such as the bulky, overly conceited “muscle head” at the gym who uses his physical size as a means of intimidation, or the super “manly” guy who saves the day (or even the world). From their broad, strong shoulders to self-assured attitude, which are often synonymous with having high levels of testosterone, these men are typically viewed as having ideal virility and attractiveness, with either obnoxious or glorified personality traits, depending on the portrayal. However, most men will never exhibit the behaviors or appearances that are commonly associated with the stereotypical images of testosterone—testosterone is simply a normal and necessary hormone for overall healthy functioning.
