Warning Signs of Andropause... and What to Do About It

When you hear the word menopause, you probably conjure up an image of a middle-aged woman with hot flashes and mood swings. But what about when you hear the word andropause? Most people aren’t even familiar with the term, and those who are don’t always have a good idea of what it entails. Andropause is, essentially, the male version of menopause, with symptoms caused by an age-related decline in testosterone in middle-aged men. Testosterone gradually decreases in all men as they age, but for those with poorer eating habits who are sedentary, the decline can be sharper and cause more symptoms. In contrast, men who are in better health tend to experience less, if any, symptoms. Symptoms of andropause can include lower energy levels, mood swings, sexual dysfunction, and more.
